Post Note: City Council

This Monday at 7:30pm, we are meeting with the City Council here in Mulvane, to request a variance and or reduction in the $7500 fee and $2500 deposit the city charges us to set up the Fireworks stand.

If you remember, last year, our profits were only a little over $2300 for many weeks of work including people staying round the clock. Membership decided to try it again this year to see if we can make a better profit and make it worth our while.

By far, the biggest expense (other than the product cost) to us was the City fees. City government is no different than any other. NUMBERS IMPRESS!!

The council room seats about 70. We need to fill it wih Legion members. Wear vests, hats, shirts, etc., just something to identify you as a Post 136 American Legion member. We are 2nd on the agenda under new business and when we are done, eveyone can leave. Please be at city hall before 7:30 so we are not being seated after it starts. I suggest between 7-7:15.

Please support us with an hour of your time.

Post Note

We have just been informed by the band that came to us and asked to be booked on New Years Eve, a conflict has come up and they cannot play. An alternate was suggested, but since the price is higher, and it was decided to back out.

I hope no one changed or turned down other plans just for this, but it was unavoidable. There will be no band at the post on New Years. All are welcome to still get together though.

Sorry for the change and if anyone else wants to try and set something up, feel free.

Post Note - 12-20-09

Here are a few reminders and post news for the next couple of weeks:

1) Reminder we will NOT be serving dinner on Christmas Day and it has been decided to NOT have dinner on New Years Day. We will start up at the usual schedule on Friday, Jan 8.

2) Next Sunday, Dec 27, Peggy will be serving a buffet breakfast. Cost will be $6 and if a fruit bar is added, $7. This is to see how it is received and if popular, it will happen again, especially on days where we have major events going on.

3) At first we were not planning anything for New Years Eve, but enough have talked about it we decided to try something different. The band 'Detour' will play at the post from 8-12. They will set up in the bar area (dining section). More details will be coming out as we get closer. If you want to spend a relaxing evening and bring in New Years with your fellow members, this is where you need to be.

4) There will be a homecoming for Eric Batman, (home for holidays from Afghanistan), on Friday, Jan 1. Will be a 6pm and will be at the post. Remember there will be no dinner that evening. May also have another event following the homecoming, but details are to be worked out.

Important stuff happening this weekend:

Important stuff happening this weekend:

1) S.A.L. children’s Christmas party will be held this Sunday from 3-5pm. Bring your kids, grandkids, or small waifs you find walking down the street. Santa will be there with games, prizes and cookies. Nothing says Christmas like getting the little tykes wired on cookies and sending them home to mom and dad.

2) The ALR 136 VA Christmas will be held prior to the SAL party. Any and everyone is invited to come up to the VA, listen to good music, visit with our vets and help pass out gifts. Will be leaving the post around noon, so if you wish to join in, come by for breakfast and do something nice for a vet.

3) Monday evening is our general Legion and Auxiliary meeting at 7pm. Will be voting on a new BOG position and the Auxiliary will be invited in to vote also. It is a post level position and all members can vote on this opening. As always, SAL is invited to attend our meeting.

4) If you cannot attend the meeting, or if you are inclined to spend Pearl Harbor Day with some WWII vets, I have attached a flyer for an event at Hanger 1. Our own WWII member and B-29 pilot Charles Chauncey will be one of the honored guests and speakers. The event is from 4-10pm.

Thanksgiving Post Note

The dining room will be closed for dinner this Friday, 11/27/09 so the staff can enjoy their holiday. We will be open Sunday 11/29 for breakfast at the usual hours.

If you were not here on Monday, we had over 125 members and their families here for our annual Post Thanksgiving dinner. Like any family, we love to see a full house. Thank you to everyone that made it a great success.

Karen and I wish all of you a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving day.

Giggles Update

Greetings from Sunny Colorado, My Friends !!!

I met with Dr. Nichols today and was told to "get on that bike and have some fun!" He has totally released me from all restrictions and follow-up care. The tests have shown that the surgery was TOTALLY successful !!!!! PRAISE THE LORD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At this time, he feels that there is no need for the every six-month MRIs for the next five years. WooHoo !

He also said that he was thinking of joining the Kansas ALR in Winter Park next year and asked that I let you all know that what we do is admired and appreciated by him, his staff and his family. He gave me a big hug and said to keep up the great work with the Kansas ALR and Patriot Guard. Is it any wonder I love this guy? HA!

I want to thank all of you for the many thoughts and prayers !!! You are truly the most AMAZING friends I have ever known.

Take Care of You,
Deb a/k/a Giggles
